History, mission and values
A Rich History of Community and Sport
Founded in 1976 by Dr. Max Kaulbach, Marblehead Youth Soccer Association (MYSA) has been a cornerstone of the Marblehead community for nearly 50 years. Dr. Kaulbach, a passionate soccer enthusiast, moved to Marblehead in 1965 and established a cardiology practice at Salem Hospital.
Recognizing the sport’s physical and mental benefits, he partnered with Mike Wade to create a program that would unite the town’s youth and their families through soccer. To further enhance the program, they enlisted the help of Nancy Grazado. In the early days, player information and coaching insights were meticulously recorded on 4×6 index cards.
Today, MYSA, a non-profit organization run entirely by dedicated volunteers, is the largest youth sports program in Marblehead, serving over 900 athletes each fall and spring. We continue to honor the legacy of our founders, fostering a love of soccer and a strong sense of community.
Our Mission
To foster a love of soccer and a sense of community among Marblehead youth through quality coaching, competitive play, and a positive sportsmanship environment.
Our programs cater to children from Kindergarten through high school, providing a fun and enriching experience for our athletes while developing a strong foundation in soccer skills. From the first steps on the field to advancing teamwork and sportsmanship, MYSA prioritizes both enjoyment and learning within a positive environment.
